13 hectares were given to Sir George Gipps in 1840 who was a chemist and he built "Forest Lodge" mansion in 1912. A local pub, also called "Forest Lodge" is one of the few remaining watering holes of the 1850's still operating.

Separated from Glebe in general by a wide valley enclosing Harold Park through Hegarty Street to Bridge Road across Johnston's Creek and Orphan School Creek.

Developed mainly in the Victorian era, a predominance of single and double storey row houses follow the contours of the low hills, stepping down in steep grades, and a few grander terraces built on the higher elevations.

As with Glebe, close proximity to Sydney University and the thriving village culture of the area with its many shops, schools, hotels, parks and neighbourhood facilities makes Forest Lodge a desirable location.
